Catarratto Il Meridione, Sicily

This wine has floral aromas with hints of almond and a tropical fruit and peachy finish. It is soft and gentle, balanced with a fresh citrus acidity. A great wine to match with food.
dria Vini were founded in 2003 in Sicily and is a winemaking venture jointly owned by Boutinot and Araldica Vini Piemontesi, the leading co-operative in Piemonte. All areas of production, from grape selection through to vinification, maturation, blending and bottling are meticulously overseen by the winery. Working closely with growers and cooperatives, their aim is to produce a range of authentic, well-priced wines from local grape varieties. Cattarrato and Nero dAvola are grapes native to the island of Sicily, and produce some of the best value, yet little known wines that money can buy.
Catarratto is the most planted white grape in western Sicily, producing both Marsala and dry white wines. This wine is a blend of two components, one from near the town of Marsala, the other, from the Catarratto ‘Lucido’ clone, from hillside vineyards at 600m altitude near Alcamo. Gentle pressing, cool, slow fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks using selected yeasts. The wine was bottled young after a short period of ageing on fine lees in stainless steel.
